During an appearance at the Netflix Is a Joke Presents: This Better Be Funny with David Letterman event at The Montalban Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 7, Short, 76, appeared on a panel alongside fellow comediansDavid LettermanandPaul Shafferand discussed topics including his early career, friendship withSteve Martinand his late wifeNancy Dolman.

Letterman, 79, also commented on Short’s upcoming Netflix documentary film,Marty, Life Is Short, and noted that after watching the doc the “one thing that struck me was your childhood.”

“You came from a funny Irish Catholic family and then suddenly your brother died in a car accident. And then your mother got cancer. And then your father died. That’s an incredible amount of loss very early,” Letterman told Short.

“Yeah, I was around 20,” replied Short. “My older brother David died first. He was the star of the family. Then my mother was diagnosed with cancer at his funeral and died three years later. My father died the year after that.”

“So there was definitely a period where life changed completely,” added Short, noting that his mother, who was a violinist, was the first female concertmaster in North America and was "an extraordinary musician."

Short was just 12 when his brother died, while his mother and father, who was a steel executive, died before he was 21.

In an early profile with PEOPLE, Short, who was 34 at the time, shared thetouching way he coped with the tragedy his family has experienced.

"There isn't a period of my life that I don't like to think about or wouldn't go back to,” he told PEOPLE at the time. "It sounds like a tragic family, but it really isn't.”

"My mother had cancer, and she had been ill and then in remission since I was 13. She was a remarkable person; both my parents were. So I never looked at it as if it was a tragedy — that I didn't have them my whole life. You learn some sense of priorities. Our whole family took the attitude that if you have wonderful moments, don't second-guess them, just enjoy them."

Short’s actress wife Dolmandied in August 2010from ovarian cancer. The pair sharedthree children, sons Oliver, 40, and Henry, 36, and daughter Katherine, who died in February of this year.

Katherinediedby suicide on Feb. 23, 2026, at the age of 42.

Blake Lively Branded a 'Hypocrite' After Met Gala Appearance — Source

Blake Livelyrecently graced the red carpet at Met Gala 2026. The actress donned a pastel archival Versace gown with jewel details and a voluminous skirt. This appearance took place on the same day Lively settled her lawsuit withJustin Baldoni. Now, as per a source, Lively is being called a hypocrite for attending the fashion event for important reasons.

Blake Lively’s ‘utter hypocrisy’ called out after her Met Gala 2026 appearance, per source

According toRadarOnline.com, Blake Lively is being accused of “utter hypocrisy” for attending the Met Gala 2026. Critics have told the outlet that her stances don’t align with her attending an event supported by the Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos. For those unaware, the company has been reportedly accused of mistreating workers over pay, working conditions, and other misconduct. Last month, the National Labor Relations Board, aka NLRB, said in itsrulingthat Amazon must cooperate with the Staten Island warehouse workers.

An insider close to the Met Gala told RadarOnline.com, “There is a growing perception that Blake is willing to go all-in when it comes to calling out alleged wrongdoing in Hollywood.” However, they added that she’s “far less vocal when it comes to the corporate power structures she is now orbiting.” The individual continued that Lively is being questioned for talking about workplace conduct. This is because she is supporting an event backed by a company allegedly engaging in unfair labor practices.

Another source added, “The criticism against Blake is not subtle – and it is all about her inconsistency.” Amazon has faced repeated allegations of poorly treating its workers. Thus, the source continued, “it feels jarring that Blake has invested so much energy into challenging one individual,” while unbothered by the mentioned controversies.

On Monday, Lively and her “It Ends With Us” co-star Justin Baldoni settled their court case. Attorneys for both sides also confirmed the agreement in a joint statement. “The end product — the movie It Ends With Us — is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life,” the statement read. The statement continued, “Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors — and all survivors — is a goal that we stand behind.”

Correa was injured Tuesday while taking swings in the batting cage before a gameagainst the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“I was hitting in the cage, normal day, feeling great,” he said. “I went through my whole routine, took a swing and just felt a pop. It just completely snapped on me and then I fell to the ground and couldn’t put weight on it.”

Correa was on crutches and in a walking boot Wednesday morning at the ballpark after seeing a foot specialist. He said he would seek some other opinions before scheduling the surgery.

Correa, 31, said the injury was a “complete tear” and his recovery is expected to take six to eight months.

It’s yet another blow to an Astros team that has dealt with scores of injuries this season, includingan oblique injury to Yainer Diazthat landed the catcher on the injured list Tuesday.

Correa, who is back with the Astros after last summer’s blockbuster trade from the Twins, played third base for Houston last season with Jeremy Peña at shortstop. But Correa has been playing shortstop recently with Peña out with a hamstring injury.

Correa is batting .279 with three home runs and 16 RBIs.
