Tiger Woods’ lawyer and prosecutors are set to argue over prescription records in Florida DUI case

STUART, Fla. (AP) —Tiger Woods' attorney and prosecutors are set to argue Tuesday about whether the golfer's prescription drug records should be handed over to the state following hisMarch arrest in Floridaon suspicion of driving under the influence.

Associated Press

A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning in Martin County circuit court, just north of Palm Beach County. Prosecutors haveissued a subpoenaseeking copies of all prescription medication records for the legendary golfer at a Palm Beach pharmacy from the start of the year through the end of March. Defense attorney Doug Duncan said in a court filing last month that Woods has a constitutional right to privacy when it comes to his prescription medications.

If the judge determines the drug records are necessary, Duncan has also asked for a protective order limiting their release only to prosecutors, law enforcement officers, state experts and Woods' defense team.

Woods has pleaded not guilty todriving under the influence. A sheriff’s office report said deputies found two pain pills in his pocket, and he showed signs of impairment after his SUV clipped a truck's trailer and rolled onto its side.

Woods was traveling at high speeds on a beachside, residential road on Jupiter Island with a 30 mph (nearly 50 kph) speed limit when his Land Rover caused $5,000 in damage to the truck, according to an incident report. Woods agreed to a Breathalyzer test that showed no signs of alcohol, but refused a urine test, authorities said.

Italian Open Tennis

The top-ranked Sinner beat qualifier Andrea Pellegrino 6-2, 6-3 to reach theItalian Openquarterfinals on Tuesday and match Novak Djokovic’s record with a 31st consecutive Masters Series victory.

Sinner hasn’t been beaten in a Masters Series event — the biggest tournaments outside the Grand Slams — since he retired with cramps in extreme heat against Tallon Griekspoor in Shanghai in October.

Djokovic won 31 straight Masters matches in 2011.

“If you want to be a great player you've got to play on all the surfaces and all the tournaments at your maximum,” Sinner said. “It's the mind that makes the difference.”

Like in his previous match, Sinner took control quickly with a break in the opening game before a packed Campo Centrale — where many fans were decked out in orange, which is Sinner's theme color. He improved to 19-0 against fellow Italians.

If Sinner raises the trophy in Rome, he’ll become the second man after Djokovic to triumph at all nine Masters 1000 events. Djokovic has won each event at least twice.

Sinner has already won a record five straight Masters events and withCarlos Alcaraz sidelineddue to a right wrist injury, it doesn’t seem like anyone can prevent him from winning in Rome and at the upcoming French Open.

“It's time to take the title away from Adriano,” read a sign that one fan held aloft at the Foro Italico, referring to the last Italian man to win the singles title in Rome: Adriano Panatta 50 years ago.

Panatta will present the winner's trophy after Sunday's title match.

Overall, Sinner extended his winning streak to 26 matches. He hasn’t lost since getting beat by Jakub Mensik in the Qatar Open quarterfinals on Feb. 19.

Sinner’s quarterfinal opponent will be either 12th-seeded Andrey Rublev or Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili, who were playing later.

Also, 19-year-old Rafael Jodar swept aside Learner Tien 6-1, 6-4 to become only the second teenager after Rafael Nadal (in 2005) to reach the Madrid and Rome quarterfinals in the same season.

Jodar will next face Luciano Darderi, who saved four match points in the second set of a 1-6, 7-6 (10), 6-0 victory over two-time Rome champion Alexander Zverev,

Casper Ruud eased past Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-1 with Musetti getting treatment for a left thigh issue.

Ruud will face Karen Khachanov, who beat Dino Prizmic 6-1, 7-6 (2). Prizmic eliminated Novak Djokovic on Friday.

Cirstea makes semifinal run at 36

In the women’s tournament, 36-year-old Sorana Cirstea reached the semifinals with a 6-1, 7-6 (0) victory over 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko.

Cirstea upset top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the third round and is now the second oldest semifinalist in a WTA 1000 clay-court event. Only Martina Navratilova did it at an older age, at 37 in Rome in 1994.

“I always said there’s no expiration date for ambition and dreams,” said Cirstea, who plans to retire at the end of the year. “I think everyone can see that I absolutely love this sport. I have so much passion for it.”

Defending champion Jasmine Paolini, who lost in the third round of singles, withdrew from the doubles competition due to a "minor foot issue.” She and partner Sara Errani are the defending champions in doubles, too.

Snoop Dogg fans baffled to learn wholesome origin of stage name after 36 years

Despite maintaining a public presence for more than 36 years, fans ofSnoop Doggare surprised to discoverthe rapper and actor's birth name, along with the heartwarming story behind his stage name.

It's quite typical for celebrities to adopt a stage name for their work in the entertainment world. While these names frequently derive from variations of their given names or middle names, others take a more imaginative route when selecting the name they wish to be recognized by. This practice is particularly common among singers, as their names become their trademark and persona, while simultaneously helping to maintain boundaries between their private lives and public image.

One prominent rapper and actor who opted for a stage name throughout his entertainment career is Snoop Dogg, whorecently acquired a soccer team in Wales.. And while he initially performed as 'Snoop Doggy Dogg', he eventually condensed it to 'Snoop Dogg', which remains how millions of supporters worldwide recognize him, even 35 years into his professional journey.

However, some admirers have been astonished to discover the rapper's actual name, as it took them nearly three decades to uncover. This was true for one individual, who posted toReddit's'Today I learned' community to reveal their discovery.

"TIL Snoop Dogg's real name is Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. His "Snoop Dogg" nickname came from his mother who thought he looked like Snoopy from the Peanuts," the post's title stated, as they proceeded to reference the rapper's Wikipedia entry.

Snoop Dogg has openly shared how his mother inspired his iconic stage name. During an appearance on theKelly Clarksonshow, he explained the origins of his moniker.

"How did you end up going by Snoop?" Kelly asked the rapper, questioning whether the nickname initially began as 'Snoopy'.

"As a kid, I watched Charlie Brown, and I watched Snoopy so much, my mother was like 'you watch him so damn much, you're starting to look like him'," Snoopy revealed in the interview.

He continued: "And I swear to you, my whole life, I have had 50 years with my mother, and she never called me by my real name a day in her life. She called me Snoopy, Snoopy, Snoopy, that's it. That's all."

Snoop Dogg's mother, Beverly Tate, tragically passed away on October 24, 2021, aged 70, following a battle with an undisclosed illness. Snoop Dogg announced her death on social media, calling her an "angel" and subsequently honoring her memory during his shows.

Viewers quickly flooded the comments section with reactions, with many applauding his mother for the distinctive nickname.

"Even though this is the first time I'm hearing, about how Snoop Dogg got his stage name, and listening to his story I had a feeling that's how he'd gotten the name, because it makes sense," one viewer wrote.

Another commented: "So cute he went with his mom's given nickname.

"I had NO IDEA that WHERE SNOOP DOG CAME FROM!!!!" another revealed, while a fourth person commented: "Awe love this. Momma snoop must be the cutest. super vibe Momma Snoop."

Byron Buxton's RBI double in 11th inning gives Twins a 2-1 victory over Guardians

CLEVELAND (AP) — Byron Buxton doubled off the wall in left-center with one out in the 11th inning, scoring automatic runner Matt Wallner, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Guardians 2-1 on Saturday night.

Buxton also drove in Minnesota’s first run and had its only other hit, belting his 22nd career leadoff homer on the third pitch of the game from Tanner Bibee. The Twins and Guardians each finished with two hits.

Cleveland loaded the bases with one out in the ninth and 10th, but Eric Orze (1-1) worked his way out of both jams in his 1 2/3 innings. Luis García pitched the 11th for his first save.

Rule 5 Draft selection Peyton Pallette (1-2) allowed one unearned run in two innings as AL Central Division leader Cleveland had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Buxton has 13 homers — all in his last 23 games — and is two behind MLB leaders Aaron Judge of the Yankees and Munetaka Murakami of the White Sox. Minnesota is 20-40 against the Guardians since the start of the 2022 season.

The Guardians tied it at 1-all in the fourth when José Ramírez singled off Joe Ryan, stole second base and scored on Kyle Manzardo’s hit up the middle. Ryan worked six innings, giving up two hits.

Bibee, who has five losses and four no-decisions this season, struck out a season-high nine over six innings.

In the sixth, Bibee collided with catcher Austin Hedges when both were attempting to grab a popup by Brooks Lee. Hedges dropped the ball, Bibee was charged with the error and Lee ran to second base, but was stranded there.

The first pitch was delayed by 2 hours and 6 minutes because of heavy thunderstorms.

When is Luka Doncic coming back? Injury update for Lakers-Thunder NBA Playoffs Game 3

Luka Dončić's absence from the court will continue as he was officially ruled out Friday forGame 3 of the Western Conference semifinalsbetween theOKC Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers.

USA TODAY

The Thunder leads 2-0 as the best-of-seven series shifts to Los Angeles.

Doncic has been sidelined sinceApril 2 with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. The superstar guard told the media Wednesday that he has started running, but he hasn't yet been cleared for full contact.

"I'm just doing everything I can," Doncic said. "Every day, I'm doing things I'm supposed to do. Obviously, I'm recovering, and now I'm working. The doctor said eight weeks at the beginning of the first MRI. So I’m just going day by day, and I feel better every day.”

Doncic received that first MRI on April 3, which was nearly five weeks ago. If the eight-week recovery timeline holds up, he'd miss the entire second-round series against OKC.

"I don't think people understand how frustrating it is," Doncic said. "All I want to do is play basketball, especially this time (of year). It's the best time to play basketball. It's very frustrating. Seeing what my team is doing, I'm very proud of them. But it's been very tough just to sit and watch them play."
